Design Competition Winner
Partner Project
Challenge: A modern hospital room should create a seamless flow between patient, provider, and visitor. It should have the most current technology without intimidating. The overall plan it provided. The shape and size of the room is to be determined by the designer.
Solution: When recovering from a surgery or undergoing treatment, a patient’s room has a great opportunity to impact his or her stay in a time of hardship. The room can affect not only level of comfort but length of recovery, pain tolerance, and overall well-being. Additionally, the health of the patient fluctuates with the experience in both providers and visitors. The room must not only reduce stress of the patient, but those who interact with them. Fortunately, biophilic elements and advanced technology allow all these inhabitants to coincide comfortably in one space. Using biophilic design, organic elements are incorporated into a functional, intuitive space. A fluid, simplistic circulation with versatile function stimulates patients, caregivers, and families to interact positively in one unified space.
